Mess in the attic

I find that we are quoting more roofs after taking a hiatus for a few years. Found myself in an attic today trying to prepare the customer for the huge mess left after stripping off their roof. Bottom layer is cedar shakes so you know it's going to be crappy.

I advised them to consolidate as much as possible and cover everything well. And expect to be dealing with it every time they retrieve something form the attic for a long time. Tonight I was wondering if I could include the cost of cleaning and can it be done well enough when working around so much stowage. In the past I never wanted the liability or responsibility of moving their possessions around.

So, what are you guys doing if anything?

TIA

Good Luck
Dave

They do it or they pay me to do it. You really dont want to have to pay to do something I really dont like doing though.

have them remove everything then line the entire attic with plastic. When finished just roll it up and empty it in the dumpster. Don't forget to save the plastic for the next job

All itnerior protection is the responsibilty of the purchaser. Printed clearly on the back of my contracts. if they want me to clean it they can pay me hourly a hefty sum, however I'd probably just refer the to a maid to do it instead. I wouldn't even know how to clean insulation, plus risk stepping through a ceiling etc... what's it worth? I dunno. Maybe $750 to tarp off and another $750 to remove. If they are willing to pay that for a total of 3 hours time maybe we can work it out.
