Mansard Roof Ideas?

Hi All,

Got a customer who wants to strip alum siding off his mansard and go with 3 tabs. Ive recommended slate or imitation slate as Im not sure about the 3 tabbers sticking on a nearly vertical surface. Hes not going for it, cost being the reason. Some places online say just do some extra nails and that will hold the tabs, but Im still worried about the wind busting em off. Anyone run into this before and what did you come up with for a solution. Thanks

Re: Mansard Roof Ideas?

I've never done a mansard with 3 tabs, but I have done a few gambrels, and they stayed just fine.

there are specific instructions for sidewall applications such as this check with the manufacturer. My memory says to put several dabs of roof cement under each tab but I may be wrong on that. read the package.

Re: Mansard Roof Ideas?

I did a mansard with OC 25 year, 3-tabs in 1987, all we did was six nail and make sure we took the time to place each nail properly.
I drive past the building numerous times a week and I noticed in 2006 that one tab blew off on the south west rake, so one tab lost in 19 years.
That's the only problem with the roof thus far at 22 years old.
