Lead Coated Copper Roof

Can water be collected for watering garden lawn, plants, trees, etc? Can it also be used for a vegetable garden? My client would also like to use the water for the toilets and possibly for the washing machine. I know that you can use the water from other metal roofs for these purposes, but I am concerned because of the lead coating. Is there a possibility of the lead contaminating the water, or is it securely bonded to the copper?

If a lead coated copper roof cannot be used for those purposes, does anyone know if some of the sika sarnafil roof materials will work (specifically sarnafil G410)?

Thanks

It wouldn't bother me. Some cities still have solid lead water lines. 80% of existing plumbing,IMHO, don't have lead-free solder. I work with it all the time and no problems so far.

That seems to be the consensus. I only researched for a few hours today, but I haven't come across any hard proof that lead coated copper contaminates water, soil (from runoff), etc.

Is there a huge cost difference between lead coated and regular copper?

Re: Lead Coated Copper Roof

Not much of a difference price wise, I am interested in the way to collect the water and use it for the toilets. I have a grey water pump that pumps from the vanity to the toilet, only because my toilets use 7 gallons a flush.

Getting to be amoot point. My suppliers called a few months back and said the company(s) that coated the copper have discontinued the practice.
What a shame. I knew that what I installed wouldn't need replacement in my kid's lifetime. The stuff is impervious to lots of things that attack copper.

Re: Lead Coated Copper Roof

Hi All, here in England most valleys and flashings that are used here on roofs are made out of lead, although most of the underground water supply system was oridginally lead pipe, that has been replaced to copper or plastic(though older houses built before say 1950 will have some lead pipes in the house still!)
People still collect the water from the roofs via gutters anda water butt and use it to water there gardens.
regards
Dave
