Landmarks Nail Lines

Do you guys trust Landmarks newer third nail line. They say the face of the shingle is stronger to back up the higher nail line with the Widetracks. I still keep my nails on the original nail line where the double layer is. How about you?
I think this may cause problems in the future.

Re: Landmarks Nail Lines

The new wide tracks Nail lines were produced from PRAC meetings, Where
Contractors wanted a larger nail area for faster application. The new
Metric LM Shingles have 4 Laminate Stripes compared to 3 on American Standard Shingles. The new shingles also have the sealant Stripe on the back of the shingle closer to the edge and has a wider release tape

Re: Landmarks Nail Lines

They were metric before they were widetracks though. I thought this 4 laminate started with the widetrack. I personally liked the standard LM's, but the Metrics cover more and do look a tad better.

I have used the new "wide track 30 year Landmark once. I agree with MJW. I dont' trust the new line either. So I kept my nails down in the zone where they catch both laminates

I believe all the Certainteed plants that make Metric Landmark have the wide track,Avery is the latest to change and Norwood may be the only plant that has not changed yet. But do agree with MJW and RRD that nails in the Common bond
area is always the best.

Re: Landmarks Nail Lines

I checked out the new Ct's landmarks last week. I was very impressed. Looks like some of the other mauf need to step up.

We will still nail in the double thickness.

Re: Landmarks Nail Lines

It is very interesting that this is brought up right now, let me explain.

Early this week my family all roofers went up to Lake of the Woods ice fishing. My father was there with 30+ years exp. as well as my two uncles both with around 25 years exp. each and my two brothers and myself with around 30 years total between the three of us.

We started talking about the new Landmark 30's and the "new nail line". My Uncle said he read the instructions and is under the believe you can nail between the "lines" and you don't have to nail were it's the thickest part of the laminate to have the warranty. Instantly I stood up in the fish house and put my hand out and said, "I'll be you $100 you can't get that in writing from Certainteed". He shook my hand so now it's time to see what Certainteed has to say about there new nail lines. We decided if he could get a letter from Certainteed saying they would warranty the shingles with all nails just below the top nail line I would pay him $100 and if I got a letter saying the nails had be placed in the thickest part of the shingle he would pay me $100.

Not sure how easy it will be to get Certainteed to write me or email me a letter but I will try it. I've done a couple roofs with the new versions and laid them just like the previous versions.

Re: Landmarks Nail Lines

That is what the third line is for. It makes a wider nailing area. They supposedly will stand behind them if nailed there, but most seem to not trust it.

That's what I'm sort of thinking now. Perhaps I'll just go put a couple squares on his next roof instead!!!

Re: Landmarks Nail Lines

I have roofed for about 25 years know and i used to sit on those prac meetings. And i have one thing to say do not trust certainteed for anything there first responce to anything that has to deal with them warrantying their shingle is it is the installers fault. They will not stand behind you ever,if you say they will get it in writing and show me one case where they did.one day my foremen showed me a package by landmark saying stagger shingles this way,on the next drop the stagger was different,we storm nail every roof and right on the line,6 years later they blow off.poor quality just cause everyone else sells them dont mean you have to.Take my advise sell something else they will always blame you for everything,no matter what,do you remember globe, everyone sold them and alot of guys got burned.

Re: Landmarks Nail Lines

Show me a better shingle that is competitive in price. Cetainteed is one of the few companies that have stood behind their products for us. Never had a problem.
