Re: Kick Out Diverters
We use them on all our EIFS jobs that have a roofline touching the wall. They work great.

Re: Kick Out Diverters
Nice! How much?
It's sad to see this though. These are not needed if you have a sider with a brain. All of this is because the sider does not flash anything and it was before house wrap was mandatory. Yes, I know they are in the code book. |

Re: Kick Out Diverters
That is one of the biggest pet peeves from the Home Inspectors on Nachi.org forum in the exteriors section sub-forum and so cheap and easy to make and install.
They continually harp on those missing and then show the IR photos of the water intrusion that occurred to the exterior walls below. Good reminder. Ed

Re: Kick Out Diverters
I have used deverters like that on stucco/drivet, but never on siding.
Siding can be flashed properly without that huge thing sticking out.

Re: Kick Out Diverters
Eh, call it an insurance policy for the weak at heart. I too, have seen some pretty hairy IR pictures (and regular pictures) of water infiltration at this juncture. Sure can't hurt if the customer otherwise doesn't have a visual objection to it. If I was a roofer or a sidewaller, I'm not sure I'd even give them the choice.

Those are for the same idiots that need pre made J channel corners. There are (or at least I consider them to be) very simple things that can be done to prevent water getting in at this spot.

Re: Kick Out Diverters
The MN code also shows a step flashing installed over the first section of siding that comes into the roof line to be code.
How about those pesky inspectors that want to see kick outs on bay windows? Agree with Joe, if done right there is no need for this metal sticking out of the siding. Get a home onwner from time to time that don't like them. |

Re: Kick Out Diverters
Haha, I've seen them on dog ears on a new house. It doesn't even have a half a shingle worth of roofing, but there is a nice shiny kick out flashing caulked into a slit cut in the siding. Looks horrible and completely pointless.

Re: Kick Out DivertersQuote:
My sider installs kick outs that match the siding color. Not sure how he does it but they pass inspection. What I do on new roofs is cut the kick out at an angle so there is no dead space behind the first tin. Hard to explain but looks ok. Basicly the kick out hangs down an inch in a half pass the roof line. After the code went into effect a couple years ago one of my builders sent me out to several roofs to install the kick outs or as my sider calls them "kickers". Yup, had to put them on pigeon returns!!! |
