It's suckin' eggs in NY!

We'll get a nice high 30's day, even a mid-40's thrown in for a bit, then boom!

We get slammed with ice storms and temps hovering in the high teens for a high!

This is the first year I think that I can't wait for the Spring to get here!

I'm supposed to be on a beach in Puerto Rico right now!

Not here!

But, this was'nt my year...I'm going in a few weeks, but only literally for a day to work on my house down there.

Still...here's the beach by my house: Enjoy a little getaway for the eyes guys...

Yeah we've got a bunch of work lined up. THe thing about harsh winters is that us roofers sit on our hind sides for months, but when it lets up it's usually a great year. Snow kills roofs. I've got my guys out workign all weekend since it'll be in the 40's or maybe even hit 50' on Sunday.

When I was in my early 20's...I use to stress rainy days not realizing how it would (pun intended) flood me with work right after.

That's when I realized that roofing is a trade of hurry up & wait.

You're either scrambling to finish up work or in a down time (that is, for little guys like me).

You learn your first year how to save for the "rainy days". However sometimes, like this year, the snow came a month early, and that really screwed up my cash flow.

The good news is, I woke up to 50 degree temprature and I will have a 2 man repair crew busting hump for the next 3 days, and then perhaps on Tuesday we can finish that 80 square TPO job we've got half finished and sitting for 2 months.

Re: Its Been A Cold Winter Here In Midwest, Nice To Know Spring Is Near !

I roof in Michigan and it's always ruff in the winter.

I've been at it 3 years with my own company and I always stress in the winter. Every year I get more work than I can handle because I don't want to be running a 10 man crew, or multiple crews. I like to be on the job, meeting with the customer myself, when I promise them I will ensure the job is done right, I do it by being on the job next to the guys working.

The work goes faster that way, I'm involved with the work. I'm 28, hard working, really easy to talk to, have taken the time to research my products and methods and it shows through my work and my customers appricate it.

I ALWAYS stress still though. It does not matter. I booked 3 good size roofs in the last 2 days though. All from previous customers. One, another home he owns, and others from family members of previous customers. It's worth it to send them holiday cards, thank you cards and keep them in mind.

I don't know that I'll ever be able to take a winter and just relax with out worrying about spring/summer work. I'm just not like that. If I'm not working, I'm thinking the worse.

Cold?? Just like a bunch of old ladies.....Go scramblin' in the house or office if it gets a little chilly....LOL

I'm just happy it's above zero and the days are getting longer. These 3-4 hour days are tough to get alot accomplished. I still would rather work steady all year, rather than kill myself in the heat, in order to make enough to slack in the winter.

I do most of my invoicing from late Summer to early Fall jobs in late Fall to early Winter. More cash flow in the Winter months than the rest of the year.

Did two large jobs last month and one more to do this month and then comes March and a lot of jobs on the books.

Winter is my favorite time of year though as it's nice to have time off to ice fish.
