Hey Tradesmen:

I have a customer that wants a metal roof installed "over" an established metal roof of the same kind... what are your thoughts regarding this undertaking ? JIM

Jim, I responded to your email. I said always tear off the roof regardless of what's there now and what you are planning to isntall. Tear it off and do it right, or walk away from the job.

Re: Installing Metal Roofing Over Metal Roofing

I wouldn't walk away bugdoc, I would RUN away. The way to get the customer to see the point is explain the roof loading and weight, if he doesn't buy into it or it is a saving money thing, get a contract stating no warantee express or implied.

I don't know where you are, but I would bet you may be covered under IBC code against doing that installation anyway. I would need more info to make a call, but I wouldn't do it.

Re: Installing Metal Roofing Over Metal Roofing

thanks gents -- my thoughts exactly,-- The more I gave thought to snow weight and live/dead load the more I sceptisized about the customers wants and his or the "actual needs" or his attepmts to modify the job/work on his behalf. I will surely explain this to him and if he bolts then I can consider myself professionally fearless of any future comebacks/suites.
