Illinois Roofing License
My partner and I are getting ready to take the Illinois roofing test for a Limited license. Are there any pointers anyoe can give us? We have the books and practice tests, but there is soooo much information. Is there a study guide available somewhere for this massive amount of information? Also, are the practice tests the same questions which are on the actual exam? Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Re: Illinois Roofing License
I don't think anyone has ever commented about the specific questions before, but you might want to do a keyword search on Illinois Roofing Test or just glance down the roofing thread titles until you fond similar topics.
I was licensed before the testing was required, since my company started out in 1985. It is pretty difficult and if you miss one section of the test, you have to re-do the entire test again. Maybe contact the CRCA. They may have a guide. I know they have a library with all of the resources. Ed |

Re: Illinois Roofing License
We also where licensed for some years prior to the testing, let it lapse for a bit then incorporated. Took the test ( limited ) as a qualifing party and passed the first time.
I have 29 yrs field experience in the industry with a great deal of indepth work in multiple areas, working on timely technique quite a bit. ( technique now doesnt seem to account for squat, its about getting the job complete. ) Dont take the test lightly. Its not about what you feel is correct, its about right and wrong on the test. I put in apx 40 hrs of study time in, mainly with the NRCA waterproofing manual and safety book. One could almost say the test is about comprehending and remembering what one reads. There are some tricky questions though, not so tricky if you read and understand the question. I met with several men with many years of experience who failed 1, 2 times. I got lucky. Do your homework and you stand a better chance. Last edited by red_cedar; 03-20-2008 at 05:47 PM. |

Re: Illinois Roofing License
At the test there were several women taking the test, they didnt look like the type who spent any time on the roof. ( maybe they have though )
Its not about the act of applying and understanding how and why things work its about remembering and understanding what one reads. IMO One question that was on the test I recall was needing to know the multiplier for converting flat area to a given pitch. I for one didnt try to memorize those, I have the table on the inside of my aluminum folder for papers for that. Last edited by red_cedar; 03-21-2008 at 07:23 PM. |

Re: Illinois Roofing License
I Took A Test Tooday, And I Have To Tell You It's Very Tricky And Dificult, I Study For About 60 Hrs.... You Have To Now The Books Perfect, Most Question Are Something That You Have To Come Up To From Reading And Understanding The Books - Only Knowing The Books Does Not Work. I Know I Will Filed. A Lot Of Question Have All Answer Correct....but One Is Better Then Another. Whatever Looks Like Important In The Books - There Is No Single Question About It On Exam, They Simply Know You Will Know The Answer Anyway, Then Whay Ask?
PERSONALY I Think Test SuckS! Knowing Bussines Will Help, But Not A Lot... Last edited by tn95; 03-26-2008 at 07:45 PM. |

So TN95, I think the OP would like to know what types of questions they were concentrating on.

Re: Illinois Roofing License
There was once a SoCal roofer on the RCS that typed every word with a capital letter. Hard to read.
