IB Roof Installers - Check In Here

Hi guys,

I'm creating a listing of roofing contractors who install IB roof and who are certified by the manufacturer. The listing is here: IB Roof Installers directory.

If you are a certified IB roof installer, respond here or contact me by PM or through our website.

The listing is free, and if you link back to us it would be great, but not required.

Why am I doing this? Very simple - we get at least on online inquiry each week (sometimes 3+) from different states - each one goes something like this:

"I want IB roof installed and know that you guys are in MA, and I live in (Virginia, PA, NJ, TX ... etc.). Do you have someone who installs IB roofing down here?"

I can't even count how many phone calls I get each day (5-10 easy) from outside New England area (PS - most popular are NY, TX, PA, NJ and FL) ... I already learned many area codes - 610, 410, 973 ....

Bottom line - I don't have time to talk to them, so I just ignore these calls. However, these are your customers and it's a shame they can't find a contractor to install the roof they want. By having a list of local contractors, I can just send them to this page, and they would contact you.

We're on the list to be trained, but have to schedule the guy from to chicago to come here for it.

I needed the motivation to get the ball rolling, so thanks

Re: IB Roof Installers - Check In Here

I've spoken with the IB guys in Chicago. The only reason we didn't take the next step was simple: they don't have the cranes necessary for loading materials on the roof. Therefore logistically for me it doesn't make sense to install their product when I can get similiar Carlisle and Versico PVC membrane from my suppliers who can also provide roof loading. It eliminates the necessity for me to rent a crane since we do not own crane trucks. I suppose IB targets the larger guys who have such equipment, but if I am not going to be using the crane truck every day I prefer keep my overhead low and let the suppliers own and maintain the cranes.

Have only had the chance to do two jobs so far. Been happy with the products and with the company so far. Am hoping to get a chance to sell more but opportunities have not been there yet.

IB is a great product and a great company. We did the first IB roof on cape cod "grey membrane".

@ Grumpy

We don't have a crane either, so what I do is order insulation from Harvey or Bradco and tell them to deliver it on a boom lift truck (local Bradco used to have a crane 3 years ago, but they got rid of it) and it costs like $25 for "delivery" and they will put your rolls up on the roof for you - at least this works for me.

Carlisle and Versico is the same stuff (made by Carlisle) ... I'm not gonna start a who's PVC has more PVC type of discussion here ... I will just say that we use IB exclusively when it comes to flat / low slope roofing...

Back to the topic - if you guys DO install IB, and want to be listed in IB roof installers list - let me know (read original post for details).

@ Renegade - if you install IB roof, you should be listed.

Re: IB Roof Installers - Check In Here

Ed suggested the same thing. Truth is that's just too much work when I can simply order all material from a single source and not have to do the logistics dance.

K I S S, keep it simple stupid. The less moving parts in the machine the less chance it will break down.

I just think they should invest in the delivery cranes. There must be a strategic reasonf or not doing it and I can only assume to exclude small contractors such as myself. And if they don't want my business, that's fine.

I too don't want to start a who's better argument since I don't know enough about different PVC products nor care enough really to argue about it since there is no benefit to either of us to do so.

Re: IB Roof Installers - Check In Here

@ grumpy

IB can't realistically provide crane delivery service to every contractor unless contractor pays for it. It's just how it is, because they only have a few distribution centers throughout US and don't own the shipping company.

What you do is buy your PVC through distribution who has a local branch and its own cranes / booms, and can put your order on the roof, as it costs the almost the same, whether to bring a truck or a crane, since it it the same driver and they have those cranes, and they make plenty of $$ on your order anyway.

IB won't sell through distribution as they only want their product installed by certified installer, where anyone calling themselves a roofer can buy and install Carlisle/Versico.

Bottom line - they are not trying to keep the small guy out of the game - trust me on that - when we started out, we really had nothing in terms of $$, equipment or reputation ... we were smallest of the small

Re: IB Roof Installers - Check In Here

I am glad IB stays out of the suppliers. I like to play a different card rather than deal with the comodity game. I have had the stuff craned up with my iso board that I buy from beacan "or bradco, etc..". I will not use fanfold. Its not really a big deal to have it shipped direct.
