Gutter Down Spouts

For gutter guys. I have a large condo that looks like I am going to be working on. Right now it has K5 with standard 2x3 downspouts. Some of them was thinking they should go to K6 which will be a lot of extra cost due to the height of the building . So my question is would it be of any benefit of replacing the 2x3 with 3x4 for extra water handling.

Re: Gutter Down Spouts

Bunch of guys around here install the 3x4 with the 5" gutters since they either don't have the 6" machine or don't won't to bother with them. It will definitely help with the volume since 50% more water will flow through the larger hole . I do it on occasion.

Re: Gutter Down Spouts

My first question would be approximately how many square of roofing will be dumping into each?
As NYG says, the 3x4 will help for sure. Providing you don't get a hack who doesn't also punch the hole out bigger to go with the 3x4.

That hack would be me who will be making the holes bigger,
As you can see in the picture is a pretty big roof, not sure they have had any real problems in the past, but you know how some people can be when a real educated people that does not really know anything tells them something.
When I tell them the cost they may change their mind. I would have to pull it to reside , but still the material cost and labor for putting larger stuff up.

Grab a 3 3/8 hole saw. Will make pretty quick work out of it.

I know exactly what you mean. Once had a guy who wanted to know military specs on gutter screws. It was right then & there that I told him to find another contractor because the internet had already taught him more than I know about the gutter business.

You mean 100%.
2 inches times 3 inches = 6
3 inches times 4 inches = 12

Also, after the hole saw trim out the corners and use a proper 3x4 drop outlet.

If it only has a round 3-3/8" hole it's 9 sq. in.
