FYI, Velux For Flat Roofs

Just a public service announcement to let ya guys know that Velux is no long manufacturing or selling the EMX or ECX curbs for using their skylights on flat roofs.

I'm letting you all know this because this F'ed me up big time on a job. We bid the job using their 606 skylights and their prefabricated roof curbs. Delivery comes and "Oh by the way, Velux doesn't make those anymore." Actually it wasn't that simple. My supplier shipped me the shingle roof flashing kits, then I said they sent me the wrong flashing kits. Then they said they would call me back. Then I called another supplier because I really really needed those curbs ASAP. The other supplier told me as of June (or July) Velux is no longer manufacturing or selling the flat roof curbs.

I lost a full day on this job constructing the curbs.

It is interesting because before this change Velux would void their warranty if a skylight was mounted on any curbe other than their own. That warranty has suddenly changed. Just more proof that warranty's don't mean crap.

Re: FYI, Velux For Flat Roofs

Mod bit, but the roofing membrane doesnt matter. The slope of the roof determines curb type. There are essentially three types of Velux curbs. One is simply a 2x4 that comes as part of their "curb mounted" skylights and are for roofs 15 degrees or higher. Then there are are two other curb types for 15-10 and less than 10.

Canadian, water tight is one thing... Velux wont "Warranty" their skylight if the curb isn't built to their exact spec. With all the funky angles and such makes it difficult.

Re: FYI, Velux For Flat Roofs

It's pretty simple, except when you have to built them to velux's specification. A 2x4 is not a 2x4 but is a 2x6 that has been ripped on an angle. I think almost all of the cuts were on an angle. I built 4, the first was trash though.

had I been able to build them the way I wanted, they would have taken an hour each... but all the angles confused the fsck out of me.
