We are looking at doing a couple condo roofs in FT. Lauerdale area. Are the any special permits needed. We are a licensed and fully insured contractor from Michigan. Thanks

Oh boy are you in for it. Florida is about the most heavily regulated state in the union. Are there anys pecial permits required? I suggest for a good Shock
call the building department and ask them that.

Re: Florida Roofing ?
If you want to write a contract you need a Florida license. Whoever does the work must have Florida worker's comp coverage. If you have neither and don't want to get them, risk getting busted big time or sell the work to someone who has proper licensing and w/c, and that is going to cost you more than you think. Florida roofing w/c rates are very high. Initially, you will pay over 50% for roofing laborers w/c.
Many an out of state roofer that is properly licensed in another state has been locked-up in Florida without even realizing they could be. Even long time Florida contractors get busted and hit with big fines because they don't have their paperwork in order for the county/city they are working in. Florida doesn't play games, there are signs posted along roads stating what will happen to you if you are contracting illegally. |

What Thunder said but with exceptions. Out of staters are usually welcomed into disaster areas. You will have to be up on local codes and wind zones. I believe that there is a short, 3 page test to prove local competency.
I don't know what WC is in the rest of the country but a 5 man crew should run you about $70K per annum here. Contact Joe Staniewicz of Huckleberry, Sibley & Harvey Insurance, 772-473-3138. Tell him that Steve Teetor sent you, we go back quite a few years and he'll do the best that he can. BTW, they are insurers for the construction industry. You can google his name, he is the one in Vero Beach, not Miami and he is no longer with Felton & Associates.
