Flashing For Field Stone Chimney?

Just wondering is anyone on here has any useful tips for installing metal flashing around a chimney made of field stone. The various different shapes and sizes of stone and mortor joints has got me thinking of what would work best? .I would think to scribe and cut as close as possible, then chalk?

Think lead. It's the only way to go with stone and log cabins.

Cutting closes is really the only other way than the lead flashing Tinner showed. Both work.
