Copper Vents -vs- Plastic/aluminum

I currently have plastic vents on my roof, I am going to have my roof re-done this spring but want to do a little research on what materials should be used. I have a hip roof and there are currently 8" * 8" plastice vents along the back side of the roof, no vents on the side hips.

Is it worth using copper vents, verses plastic vents. Also the boot covers for the vent pipes, is it worth making these out of copper verses the galvanized/rubber ones used 99% of the time?

I was a tin knocker (HVAC sheet metal shop) by trade for 15 years full time, I use to make several custom copper and lead coated copper roof panels, flashing, chimney capc etc... for custom roofers. If I did this I would make them and give them to the contractor to install. I would think for looks the copper is nicer but how long do the rubber vent boots last?

Do you guys ever use copper accesories?

I don't use them because they are too expensive. It would be for looks or a prestige thing if you want them. They may last longer, but either will last longer than your shingles. I would recommend steel vents over plastic though.

I wouldn't use copper vents on a shingle roof there is no benefit, other than cosmetics. Howver on a slate or cedar roof, if it's in the budget... go for it! Plastic is crap and has no place on a roof IMO. Use the aluminum vents.

The Plumbing pipes should be lead. Again screw the plastic. The lead boots are pre made, and very easy to install and will last at least as long as the shingles but probably longer.
