Copper Roofing

I am about to embark on my first full standing seam copper roof in Eastern Colorado. I am the GC and have an experienced metal roofer. We have both done jobs with partial copper detailing, however, this will be both of our "firsts" for doing the complete roof, as few clients have the bucks to do this. Our system will be 12" wide panels with one rib stiffener with a 180 degree lock at the seam. We are planning on ensuring adequate ventilation for the attic. The fascia will be copper wrapped with copper gutter/downspout with brass hangars. The copper will be 20 oz. Are there any bits of advice, pitfalls to avoid, or hints out there?

Re: Copper Roofing

The beauty of copper roofing is that you can solder in flashing details . make sure he has guys that can solder. open irons are still the best way. Glad to hear your using 20 oz. also remember to add a slip sheet of rosin paper between the ice shield underlament or felt so that the metal dosent stick to it and oil can "buckle".
I like to do full coverage I&W under any metal roof with a rosin slip sheet.

Re: Copper Roofing

Can you afford a Roofing consultant who's experiance and project history can be verified? If he's reasonably priced he can make a HUGE differance in making sure you avoid costly pitfalls. In the end you'll have a sweet roof and a happy client!

Just my 2 cents.
