Condensation On A Tin Roof

I'm a carpenter, and my experiance with tin roofs is limited due to the fact that they aren't that popular anymore in my area. I recently purchased my first house, and it has an old tin roof. There dont appear to be any leaks, but during the fall when my wife and I were looking at it, there was a ton, and I mean a TON of condensation on the underside of the tin roof. When I say ton, I mean you can see all the moisture stains on the ceilings of the rooms below. (obviously going to be renovated) Now there is no insulation in the upstairs ceiling, or in the rafters, or in walls for that matter..... quality construction in the 1920's I also noticed that the attic is not vented what so ever. Correct me if I'm wrong, but its probobly the heated air inside the house and the cold air outside making the condensation. I was just wondering if any of you roofer guys have heard of this and have any input. Thanks

Re: Condensation On A Tin Roof

You've got it right. Hot air on a cold tin roof. You need insulation and ventilation.
