Cedar Shake Drip Edge

It's been a while since I had this request, and I frankly just can't remember how it's done.

Does the fascia just butt into the underside of the shakes? Does the overhang past the sheathing need to be longer given that the vertical part of the regular drip edge isn't there?

I know I've done this before, and it doesn't seem really that complicated but it's looking a little flimsy. Any thoughts?

Re: Cedar Shake Drip Edge

our policy is not to use drip edge on cedar roofs, the exception is at the bottom of a vally where we put a couple of short pieces of copper drip edge to lock the vally to " to prevent wicking". but otherwise we give it the proper overhang and go from there.

Re: Cedar Shake Drip Edge

I like to use a drip edge with cedar shake or shingles,it will support the cedar along the eave,as they take the most wear, also, will prevent animals chewing into the roof at the fascia from the eaves.

...Especially a soft roof like cedar. Racoons will chew through metal accessories like fans and vents. Thouse plastic plumbing pipes? Easy access to the squirells. Birds too are a nuisance.
