Re: Cabin Fever Cure...Summer Roofing Techniques...

This year, I'm going to use a small fridge on site to keep drinks cold.

Definitely a cooler of pure H20, but sports drinks too.

Also, I'm going to try one of those cooling vests that are drenched in water along with all synthetic wear.

And I'll steal the Carpenter's tricks I learned of bringing along a microwave
too.

I have a 5 gallon water cooler that i bring up on the roof everyday. Just grab a bag of ice in the morning and i have a bunch of milk jugs i refill with water to dump in there each day. On bigger jobs i bring my water dispenser(?) that uses 5 gallon jugs on top of it and chills the water as dispensed. I've never tried the vests before.

We have a large deep freezer that we haul on the back of one of the helper's trucks. We plug it in in the mornings and take turns sitting inside of it throughout the day.

I use a 5 gallon water cooler as well filled with ice water. What works best for me and keeps me up there all day is periodically wetting a clean towel from the cooler and tieing it across the back of my neck. It definatelly keeps you cool and gives you a second wind.

Actually, I'm going to use something similar to that contraption.

I'm going to use a hydration pack.
I discovered these while mountain biking.
Instead of gorging on water after being dry for a while,
I just drink as I need and don't let myself get too dry.

The military uses them.

They make packs that mount on a belt.

Something like these (though I prefer Camelbak products):

I used to toss the football we keep in the truck at lunch!

Actually, one I'm off of a roof, that's it.
I take off.
I generally try to get in a days' work from 8-1 or so (with no lunch or breaks).

Although, there are times that I'll plow through a day and when that cool evening air comes in, I'll get reinvigorated with a 2nd wind and keep working until 8 that night (I like those sessions...for some reason, I produce best at mid-morning and after 3).

(What's up John!)
