Box Gutters

well It has been some time but I get to rebuild some old box gutters. Also called internal gutters or built in gutters. These will be taken apart enough to repair/replace rotten timber, then the will be lined with copper, over winterguard and rosin paper. I have some good before pics, I will post some soon. My question is as follows: where are you guys getting your copper and copper components at now days. I need some sheet or roll copper, edging, cleats and copper nails and rivets. Any links or phone numbers would be great.

Don't forget the pics. I love to see jobs like that get torn down then rebuilt.

Re: Box Gutters

thanks there is also a place in kalamazoo MI that is pretty close to home here. I thought that I would have to make my own clips at the top edge and on the out side edge. Gotta remember to make sure all hardware is 100% copper or brass. Guess its time to dig out grandpa's old irons. I need to find my old charcol grill too. Nothing like cooking burgers and solder joints on top of scaffolding.

here are some pictures of it now! Oh it is getting a complete paint job when I get done with the gutters/roof. That will be a fun paint job. Painting bores me super fast, I can only paint for 5 or 6 hours a day.

Re: Box Gutters

There are many lumber yards that carry Lamb & Ritchie sheetmetal products and they have a Copper Plus that's a stainless steel with copper coating. It's a lot cheeper and solder easier.

Seems like you are doing an inset, not a box, but we are talking symantics, the two are nearly the same.

Chris Industries
WIndy City Metal Fabricators and Supply

These are both in the Chicago area, so doesn't help you much

Re: Box Gutters

Thanks guys I saw the copper clad stainless. It looks like a good product. I am going to have to order these things anyways, so the closer they are to me the less in shipping. Most suppliers around here are clueless any ways.
Has anyone used the half round copper clad aluminum gutters and down spouts? I know they are still just aluminum but you get that look for 33% of the cost of copper. There is a front porch that would need those, plus I thought that would really set it off! Also how does the stainless copper clad work for end wall flashings?

You might check here,
http://www.reesewholesale.com/
They have a branch in Ft. Wayne.
So does Menards, and I got some
copper coil stock there last fall
for flashing at a really great price.

Re: Box Gutters

Forgot about reese, dont really like going in there cause they seem to have a bunch of morons at the front counter. But you go where you have to when the customer wants what they want. I will call them tomarrow, hopefully as long as no one calls me first and expects me to go do work!
Dont these people know I have plaster to finish and doors to strip at home. Oh well the cobblers family never has any shoes so why should the contractor have a nice old house huh? Stupid bills and tools and gas and old lady and kids, why cant I just play video games all day!!!!

Re: Box Gutters

Every time I go there I am usually so pissed when I walk out the door I vow never to go back. I might call javets tomarrow. THey seem to have almost everything related to gutters and flashing and supplies for that stuff.
I will check Menards too. My salesman at big C gets a little lazy sometimes and I gotta jerk his leash every now and again. He gets real mad when I tell him I should just go to HD. He He He.
