Question

Biding On Township Hall Roof.

Theres a township hall near my thats taking bids on a new roof. I havent been outhere to measure it yet or see what they want done. But its a small building, maybe 40x60 at the most and probably a 4/12 pitch or slightly steeper. Its just the standard gabled roof with three in ones on there now.

This is the first time I ever bid on a job, all the other times I was just told to do it. I was wondering if any of you guys had any tips for me or something I should really look for when I go look at it.

Re: Biding On Township Hall Roof.

1. Measure the job and get a detailed material list
2. Take the material list to a dist. to get a quote.
3. Figure out how many hours this job will take to do.
4. Figure out how much you will have to make a hour to cover; labor, ins., lic.,profit, and any other overhead you may have.
5.Put together a detailed job proposal explaining everything you will use and do on the job. I would ask to present this infront of the board (or what ever group is deceiding on the contractor).
6. Don't forget to figure out the trash removal.

That's just a start someone else with more knowledge will be long to add and correct this.

Government work sometimes requires "Prevailing Wage" criteria to be met and to bew officially substantiated.

Make sure you have the wage aspect covered.

WARNING, WARNING.

This is you without a paddle, this is a first time bid, on a municipal/government project, think twice maybe three times before you start this way, start small and work your way into bidding jobs like this.

these jobs somtimes involve more red tape than its worth. Not in all cases though we have done some and it was smooth sailing.
