Re: Bid Questions For The Vets Around Here

The first thing I think you need to do is get a mentor or someone with some business knowledge.Pricing is way different from region to region. How much roofing experience do you have?If you know how long certain jobs should take you should be able to figure out a price.Alot of companies mark up the price of materials(out here it is as much as 30%).so add cost of materials+dumping and trucking fees+labor.Remember always your hidden costs and unknowns and overhead.Always specify in your contract that extras(rot, etc)are extra. There are so many variables in pricing jobs, you will know when your right and definitely know when your wrong. These kind of things come from experience,so go experience them!!

obviously depends on the size and type of job, lets start small, 5,000 dollar job, 2,000 deposit 150,000 dollar job, 30,000 deposit, this works for me. its a very subjective thing, you will get many answers and opinions here, what is correct, is what is correct for you.

Re: Bid Questions For The Vets Around Here

Like I said there are many variables.Location,economy,etc.In my area the average for a 1 layer strip(walkable,2 sided, not much detail)is between $250-300 per sq.Some others on here have said they get $450 and up for the same thing. This includes material,labor,clean-up and dumping(everything). As the pitch goes up or if more layers have to be torn off the price goes up.Also try to see what kind of deck is underneath. If it is a shiplap deck it will have to be re-sheeted,so price goes up.Alot of shingle warranties are void if you place shingles over shiplap. So always do a thorough inspection before pricing.Hope this helps

Maybe start off "sub contracting" rather than going directly out on your own,
you can learn much subbing if you pay attention and ask questions as you go,
plus you can still bid your own work just don't bid work related to jobs your doing as a sub.
