Bad Plumbing Vent Pipe Flashing

Hi all, new to this forum and decided to post my first topic. I am planning a roof replacement and had a question about proper pipe vent flashings. Specifically for the plumbing vent pipes that penetrate my roof deck. The existing flashings have all leaked over time and have been bandaged up several times with black tar caulk. The replacement flashing I've seen in the big box stores suck even more as the rubber seals are even thinner.

I was almost certain that there was a better solution available to deal with plumbing vent pipes. I remember way back that a glued type of flashing was available. One that allowed you to glue your vent pipe up to the bottom side of the part. The flashing part itself was a "one piece" design which was (theroretically) impossible to have a leak.

Does anyone know of such a product? If so where can I buy it?

Order Lead Boot flashings for the inside diameter dimension of the pipes from your roofing supply house or plumbing supply house. They are one solid piece after being soldered from the bottom flange to the pipe circumference.

Re: Bad Plumbing Vent Pipe Flashing

The two piece flashing units although the most expensive are for sure the longest lasting most trouble free plumbing vent out there. The only thing I don't like about them is the very, very narrow nailing flange on the sides. We always ice and water around the plumbing vents though.

What I use on the pvc or abs style pluming pipes is a factory painted one piece plumbing vent. Can't recall the name but they are something like $10 a pop. Was on a roof the other day at 16 years old with the same brand sand style vent and the rubber boot part looked brand new.

The worse plumbing vents you could put on a roof would be the plastic ones. I know a huge plumbing outfit that only installs the cheap plastic pluming vents. Also have seen heating guys use plastic exhaust vents.

About 10 years ago when I decided to move out of my parents house I met the landlord of a house that he was renting out. When I went to his machine shop found out he made the base for the two piece lead style plumbing vents.

My Uncle got a lead on a lumber yard going out of business several years ago. He bought several carts full of the two piece plumbing vents for $5 per cart full! Guess he's still got hundreds of them. The same place was selling pallets of shingles for $5!!!
