Artificial Slate...
I haven't seen many Artifical Slate (AS) jobs around here.
I never liked the idea of AS. I just envisioned them failing. Fading, flaking, cupping, curling, etc... I consider it "vynil siding for a roof" which isn't necessarily bad. But, I just wanted to see them around for a decade. It's like The X Files..."I want to believe." ![]() Today I saw a McDonald's with one. They were curled and cupped. Just wondering what you guys who have installed AS's think could cause this. Poor install? Excessive heat? Excessive cold? Ventillation problems? The AS's at the edges of the overhangs were the most out of whack. The ridges were really out shape and warped at some points. I've seen them nail gunned tight. Wouldn't it make sense to "hang" these like vynil siding is to allow for expansion & contraction with temperature extremes? Loosely nailing them with pre-drilled nail holes/slots?
