While many of you roofers may be familiar with this vendor, I thought I would list the link, in case someone may find it useful.

I am an insurance restorer and former adjuster. This company, last Spring, teamed with Xactimate, an insurance estimating software, to provide aerial roofing photos and drawings/specs.

I use google maps in combination with a new constrution take off tool I recently aquired. I've tested it and it's very accurate, no substitution for an onsite inspection, but great for double checking if you're second guessing yourself.

www.thebluebook.com has a free software available to their members called vu360. I've actually been bidding new construction which I usually just toss away ITB's since I got this software. After using it for a few days I decided to import a google map image and see how it worked and it worked well.

So the steps are go to google maps and capture the screen making sure to get the key. Then calibrate the measurement tool in vu360 to the key on the google map which is like 25' or something. You can really do alot like get linear measurements, surface areas, perimiters, even volume. All with a point and click. To be honest the program is so powerful I am suprised that it's free.
