Adding Pitch To A Flat Roof.

Bidding on re-roofing a motel. existing roof is flat with numerous pipe extrusions(close to 200) Roughly 2 for every square. Contractor is adding trusses to bring pitch to 6/12. We will install metal after trusses/decking are finished. My question is this: Do all pipe protrusions have to be lengthened and put through new roof? Would adequate ventilation in the metal roof allow us not to do this? Anyone dealt with this kind of thing before? Thanks for the help.

Code should address that situation. I would imagine, that the gasseous expulsion from storm sewers and the carbon dioxide from heat vents would eliminate that option. Talk to an HVAC/Plumbing contractor for that specific advice.

Maybe some can be tied together, to reduce the amount of roof top protrusions.

2 per square, what a pain in the butt!

I know that heat vents have to extend above the peak of the roof in our local codes.

Yeah, 12 inches is our code here for all PVC obtrusions. I considered having them tied together, I just hope they can get 8-10 into 1!

Re: Adding Pitch To A Flat Roof.

100 to 1 would be even better. lol

Done what your doing a time or two. Always extended everything up through the new roof, am sure that would pretty much be a universal code. The majority of them aren't a major hassle to do. Like they said, try having them tie as many together as possible, should have plenty of room to work under that 6/12.
