Whoops...someone Read The Plans Backwards

I am pretty much kept busy working with one builder/remodeler GC.

He keeps 5 or 6 "utility" subs busy on all aspects of a home from dirt to paint. He had a crew go out and put a floor system on the ICF basement a couple of weeks ago....and....well....

Two night ago I was going over the plans getting ready to start it yesterday and I saw the words lake on one side of the page...and road on the other, penciled it. As I got further into the plans I realized that there was something not right. Why would this house have all these big picture windows facing the road and not the lake?

It seems that the designer drew the plans from the perspective of sitting in a boat and looking toward the lot.

The crew only really looked at the floor system page and oriented it from the road to the lake. Then they labeled the lake on the wrong side of the plans.

So we spent day one "relocating" the stairwell.

But we are back on track and it should be a pretty cool little custom cabin.

It's a good thing it was a plain rectangle.

When I first looked at the photo it looked like the foundation was actually in the lake. Some kind of optical illusion.

Reminds me of days gone by when I was a 'Creter, we had one builder who was notorius about giving us reversed plans. Talk about a pain in the ass, nothing like looking at the print frome the back side just to see what your dimensions were and where they were. I think that eventually we did booger one up and had to fix it at the builders expense and then the prints seemed to be fine after that.

I always look for the front of the building to be at the bottom of the page.

I'm guessing that in the architect's mind the lakeside is the front of the building.

I have had to build a couple houses with the plan flipped. No the plan was not flipped for me. It just had the word "FLIPPED". So I had to check everything like four times to make sure it was right.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Looking at I-5 on the other side.

The guys who did this feel really bad. Even the GC was assuming the plans backwards...I only caught it when I was going through and CAD-ing the walls to frame. This plan has data spread out over 6 pages...for every little thing. I wanted to label the lake side for reference.

Its a 25' x 35' 2 story with full ICF basement.

I'll keep updated pics here.

Could not begin to tell you how many times I have come across screwed up plans. The worst part for me was I could never get ahold to any brass to let them know. Sometimes took a week for someone to call me back!

My wife is a southern girl...lived most of her life in and around Conroe. I'm sending her back south for a week soon, just to thaw her cold nature out.

I can't believe how cold this feels up here....a wet cold.

I need to ramp up on the old business success and invest in a winter home in N. Houston. So, uh, yes...it is NEVER too hot to work outside.

The summers up here are awesome....these winters, holy crap batman.

Was on a movie theater job recently, when we got the projection area all piped in and started to wire, someone realized the drawings we had were flipped by the architcect on the computer. Guess he was playing with the program and never put it back. Had to redo plenty of it and it made a clean job not look nearly as good when it was all corrected.

Re: Whoops...someone Read The Plans Backwards

I used to do work for a builder that gave us reversed prints all the time. Too cheap to get them reversed so the whole house would be framed reading the print backwards holding it up to the light.

Re: Whoops...someone Read The Plans Backwards

When I framed for U.S. homes they were notorious for giving the subs reversed plans, I would hold the plans up toward the sun to see the wall dimensions, I framed for them for five years and by the time I finished I was used to framing the houses with flipped plans
