I hope one day you will make it out here. Conventional roof framing is an art in its form. Look for Loneframer's posts here he got a few pictures going with roofs he did, his work is nice and clean, can tell a man takes pride in his work.

A cold one is on me when you get here

Hey Graham
I was up in your territory a few years back. I framed that Super 8 in Fort Nelson. Some nice country up there. The sun goes down too fast in December though, 3:30 we started stringing out the lights Now in the summer I know it's completly opposite, but it seems the bigger projects always start late in the year.

Zolter, I hear ya! On the up side, you can start work at 4:30 AM, and work without lights to 10:30 PM in the summer, if you want. Days are getting longer by noticeable amounts now. I get depressed by too many days without sunshine. Now till August is the best time of year, and after that is hunting season, so that is ok too. After that, I just brace for 5 months of very short days.

I don't understand why some of the biggest jobs start so late in the season. The amount of money spent just trying to keep the foundations from freezing before they cure could get a floor framed in warmer weather, I am sure.

Interior walls 5 lineal feet per manhour
Exterior walls (windows) 3 linear feet per manhour
Plywood walls or flooring 20 minutes per sheet with 4:12 nailing
Floorjoists 17 square feet per manhour
Ceiling joists 30 square feet per manhour
Beams with joist hangers 5 feet per manhour
Roof rafters 6 square feet per manhour (lots of cutting)
Hips and ridges - every one is different
Roof sheeting 1/2 hour per sheet, (odd cuts and you gotta get it up there)

these costs include unloading the lumber, loading it where it goes, cutting to length, and installing.

Nice work Mark. Some of those seem a little low, but I guess I'm thinking about what I can produce, not what others can.

That will be a very helpful guide line. One question, though. What do you mean by 4:12 nailing? We staple all our wall and roof sheathing with 1/2" crown staples 1 1/2" -2" long, and we screw all our floor sheathing. Our pattern is usually every 6" on the sides and every 8" in the field. Is that what you had in mind?
Thanks for the breakdown. Is that what you use for bidding, if I might ask?
