Re: Werid Code Rules Unique To Your City

I have noticed in new construction, say on a finish putting in plugs and switches and before carpet, that air sometimes will be getting sucked out from the house where the base plate meets the floor. Or in electrical boxes that are on exterior walls. Maybe the company screws them down and seals them up.

That can't be true at all. That is the biggest bunch of BS I've ever heard of before. The plates being nailed down wrong makes no sense at all.

Yeah. I thought so too. Seems like all the framers i'm around think that's the reason though. When i find a better answer i'll post it.

Seems to me,, if I was a home builder and I thought the framers were too incompetent to nail down a plate; they wouldn't be smart enough to actually build a sound structure.

Maybe insurance reasons?
or for a environmental program? (air leaking under the plates? ) who knows,, sounds lame

HA! I asked the oldest and smartest framer i know. He says he's nailed his plates down before with no problems. Says that back in the day, no one wanted to buy a powder gun and nail their own plates so it was cheaper to hire someone else to do it and everyone just got used to doing it that way. So it might just be a myth. A myth that ALL the rest of the framers around here that i've talked to under the age of 40 believe. Freakin hilarious. Sorry to propagate a myth fellas. I just couldn't resist posting something that seemed so absurd.
