Valley With Uneven Pitch

Hi, dont do a lot of roof work but can get by when I have to, in UK over 75% of joiners have no knowledge of traditional roofing, allmost all rooofs are truss roofs, only comes into play in extentions and allterations, No roofs are ever sheethed with ply, they are felted ond lathed, we dont do framing like you do at all. no stairs are ever made on the job, they are bought in,I have done about 6 in 45years but that is only because I have studdied your methods.
The roof is slatted and lead is used for the flashing.
Is any of this interesting or am I out of order

No, you're not out of order at all. We enjoy picures. We have lots of slate roofs in my area, but normally with copper flashings. Lead flashings are a treat to look at.

I swear, though, you all must get your lumber for free. That's some serious roof framing.

Consequently, that's some wacky scaffolding I see on the edge of the top pic. We normally only see connections like that on scaffolding built to hold up part of a building while a wall is torn out or something like that. Is that your normal sort of scaffold over there?

For some of us that like looking at this type of stuff, our wife's might consider that we think of it as soft core ****ography.

Don't tell Nathan I said that, **** is not allowed on the site. I didn't want to tell him he's made a site chocked full of contractor crack.

Keep up the good work!

Hi,you asked about scaffold, all scaffold has to be tubular steel these days by order off health and saftey, I was brought up with no scaffold att all, bricklayers used wooden squares with laths nailed across diagonally, the used to lean over to point the wall, this is called overhand brickwork, young brickies cant do it these days

Cool Pics. That first one is what we call a bastard valley or pitch. I agree, that is some serious lumber. Reminds me of some of the old houses I have worked on.

Nearly all the roofs in Scotland are Sheethed with ply, Iv saw a few that arent and are just trusses up and felted but its rare in Scotland, No doubt more and more will start to do it to cut costs, Everythings the minimum they can get away with nowadays
