They are beautiful brand new but you cant beat the feel of em after a few months when they soften up a little. Besides everyone is gonna crack jokes about how you look like a newbie until they show some wear and tear.

I'm just about to order my set of 5089's (7 Bag Pro Framers from Oxy).
I'm still waiting for my 7 year old AWP's to wear out.
Once I get my Oxy's, first thing I'm gonna do is get them all dusted up!

Re: Tool Pouches

I know people that take a new set of bags and stomp them into the dirt so that they don't look new.

when the new guy comes on the job with new bags and all new tools- makes you wonder.

Oh, but of course! I beat up my bags a bit just to get the breaking in process started. I fill them up with tools, toss them on a floor and might throw my other tool bags "on" them overnight.

The good thing about AWP Bags is that their already broken in (the leather is Oil Tanned).

Theyll look new if you are mean to them. Mine are over a year old and if you look in that pick id say they dont look too shabby still.

I've gotten that too. My teacher used my Stiletto at class. He's got a good 40+ years in the trade as a Framer. When he first saw it, he seemed discomforted by it. But when he held it, he got this odd look in his face. Then he drove the 8D's home. As he gave it back to me, I told him, "16oz...Titanium." He said..."Wow. That's some hammer, that's a great hammer."

It was so funny. While we were sitting in class, he was giving us a tool list and when he got to the hammer part, he suggested a 16-20oz hammer, nothing to big...big wasn't neccessary, blah, blah, blah. I was laughing thinking to myself, wait until they get a load of my Stiletto! lol

All my tools cost twice what the average tool costs (Tajima Chalkline $30., Stanley FatMax Knife $15., Stiletto Cat's Paw $80., etc...). But the tools don't make the man, the man makes the tool. My teacher has a cheap $15. Plumb 16oz fiberglass claw hammer, an apron and a $4. knife. He'd kick my but on a framing job anyday.

My father says a real Roofer can use any tool to do his job. And he's right. But I'm new school...I believe that a craftsman uses the best tools available even if he doesn't need to. If it protects the work and makes his job easier, why not use it? I mean, we could still use hand saws instead of worm drives to build a house, but why "not" use a worm drive? Better yet than a worm drive, a Compound Slide Miter Saw.

Our teacher is having us learn the old fashioned way. Of course, in any trade, you have master your skills with basic hand tools before you can move up to specialized tools. It would be a disservice to teach a newbie how to cut with a Miter Saw and not how to properly use a hand saw.

I'm a primadonna about my tools. All of them still look new. of course I clean them up a lot. keeps the dirt out of the motors and the rust off my hand tools. makes em last a little longer. plus it gives me a chance to get away from the old lady for a while and hang out in the garage.

Sure people crack jokes about the new looking tools. Until they work with me for a day or two. then I crack jokes about guys that wanna go home at 2pm.

I polish my hatchet so much, my father thought I was buying a new hammer every week (even though I had it for 5 years). It was theraputic for me to polish my tools.

Re: Tool Pouches

OK Oxy Guys...help me out here. It's time to bite the bullet and to order my set.

Here are the options:
5089 7 Bag Pro Framer

5530 Stronghold Big Oxy Set

I'm leaning towards the 5089's, but the 5530's are attractive too. Has anybody used the Big Oxy Set?

I was really looking at the Big Oxy for myself, but they don't make it in a Lefty yet. So I am going to go with the 9550-LH.

Take a look at that nice Stilletto cat's paw hanging there, too!

Pretty much looks like the reverse of my "intended" belt:

Nice belt(s). Who makes them though? What brand are they? Is "Task" the manufacturer?

They are the same basic bags, as far as layout goes, but the belt system is different. If you notice the bags on the 9550-LH are fixed to the belt system, and so don't slide around. My other choice is this belt set: Which after having looked at them some more last night, I think I am going to go with them. I like the layout better, and I can always secure the bags to the belt with some Chicago screws if need be.

I have the big oxy bag and it is wonderful. It holds nails and when you bend over the nails don't fall out it is extremely comfy too. If you guys want pics of my bag setup i can take some.
