Screened Porch Over Slab

I am attempting to figure out the best way to add footings for a screened porch addition for a customer. They have an existing slab(larger than proposed porch). Is it possible to just cut some squares out of the existing slab and "spot-form" the footings I need? This rather than cutting out an entire length of concrete.

I live in SE N.C. so frost/freeze is not in the picture, by the way. Also, it's just your standard screened in porch..4x4 posts, 2x4 intermediates...nothing elaborate.

Thanks for the help!

why do you need footings? if the slab is sound, a lightweight porch should be fine.

Well, yes, the slab is in good shape. Just thought that extra weight, especially on the outboard end, would be too much for 4"(+) slab.

many a porch has been built over an existing slab, the likelyhhood of problems, (with a good slab) is remote.

I like your answer. The thought of cutting and breaking concrete just didn't do it for me!

Can it made from aluminum? Like a screen room or Lanai. Weight will not be a factor if it can and the stuff is great to work with.

I tried to push any of the aluminum products, but they weren't interested.
