Opinions On Fastening Azeck
i would like to hear what other people use. Currently we are doing a porch addition and everything is azeck......soffit, fascia, crown, etc. This is a covered porch and there are a series of 5 arched openings arround the outside. We have 30 sheets of 4x10x1/2!!!! these will coverall walled areas. Wow that's some $$$$$. we are using stainless 8 penny ring shank for the fascia, freeze and soffit. I am not sure what we will use for the 4x 10 sheets though. what do u use???? ben

I usually use my 15 ga finish nailer with stainless nails, but it's probably not a good idea with the expanding and contracting. I used a brad nailer on the nice beadboard stuff. Blind nails good.

Re: Opinions On Fastening Azeck
we use our siding gun with stainless nails or hot dipped galv. we contacted the company when we first started using azeck, and they said not to use finish nails, the movement will eventually lossen the trim, BUTT!! i do know guys that use trim nails and i haven't seen any trim fall off yet, the nails we use our also ringshank. we also use pvc cement on our joints, and a two part filler for nail holes. just my 2 cents

15 ga x 2" ss finish nails and Christy's white hot glue at all joints. We also use #7 x 1" and 2" trim head square drive ss screws for extra fastening power where necessary. Such as pre-assembling window trim frames.

Re: Opinions On Fastening Azeck
So if you use a finish nail and the composite shrinks, there is no head to completely hold the material in place, correct??? If the manufacture is not reccomending the type of fastening why are people doing this?? I am struggeling with the fact that we are using this beautiful material and we are having to use headed nails. I wish there was a way around this.

Re: Opinions On Fastening Azeck
I have always used 16ga stainless nails in the areas where you're likely to see a nail head. BUT you have got to put a few 8p nails in it somewhere. even if it is only a few. (galv or stainless, doesn't matter much) I always try to hide the 8d nails. So I use both...works real well. If you don't have the stainless pin nails then you should definitely take some white caulk to the nail hole, prevents rust bleed. Same with the 8's. Maze nailers work real well for the 8's. And like the other guy said, glue the joints. Even though I usually don't glue the joints you're really suppose to.
