I see why you want to leave Idaho for the winter but why? My brother is a framing contractor in Boise also . As I was also. I framed for cherry lane const and barton homes. I frame here in texas when I get the chance. Cascade Idaho is nice. I used to live in Horseshoe Bend. I hear allot of stuff is going on in Tammarack. I think I would jump on the wagon other than down south. Who is your father by any chance and who are you name? Company ect?

I just checked your public profile. Evans framing huh? I think I worked for your father at one time when I was kid.

I second the mesa. Plenty of work... I framed for three years, got allot of connections. let me know if you need one or nine. Personally, i think the way to go would be to sell your company up there, come down here, and start a new one. If you and your crew is fast, hit up track houses, and do peice work. You can make real good money.

Reply to crosswinds Yeah my Dad is Dale I have been working up at Tamarack since the beginning but there is 8 ft of snow up there right now. I have plenty of work but just lookin for a change of pace. I am coming back here for sure I love it here. It's almost impossible to find any help up there too. Boise is not much better these days as far as the help situation. Tons of work but no crew to help get it done most of the time. I have a couple good guys right now. But its been a struggle this winter no one can pour crete its been too wet and slowin every thing down. I have kept busy but the job I am on right now they cant even get it backfilled and it's up to your knees in mud. Not exactly havin fun, I dont know if its even feesable to go south but just a thought. I should just go on vacation but I just am here to keep my crew busy until it breaks free again in the spring.

I talk to my brother and if you need a kick ass framer on the weekends let me know. Dude I would not come south man unless you speak spanish or your foreman is a chili and can direct for you.

Howdy,

I am a general in Emmett, ID. I do all my own framing with one helper. And usually form my foundations, and let someone else place and finish. I've framed in Northern California, and Southern AZ. Alot in both. The housing market in Norcal is diving fast so watch that. In AZ, it is very hard to compete with illegal workers. When I was framing there in 95-00, the going rate for frame was something like 2.25/ft. The illegals wouold do it for 1.50. For me to avoid the fast lifestyle I'm all for "adapt and overcome" the weather here in Idaho. I'll take the weather in Idaho any day to avoid the lifestyle in the beehives.

Yeah I am probably not going any where at this time. But the grass is always greener. In this case "browner" is probably the most appropriate term.

Re: Need Warmer Climate Now

I've always wanted to live in Idaho.
What are the going prices per sq. ft. for framing?
I think over half of the framers around here are out of work.
Most of the carpenters in Mich. are moving to FL.
I had three of my long time men just pack up and leave me.
Oh well, I miss them but they got tired of the slowing market here and the cold weather. I can live with the cold weather as long as there's work. It's when there's no work and the snow that makes it rough. take care
