Moody Garden Framing Model

One of these days I am going to build a scale model of a stick framed home. It would be a cool thing to have on the desk.

These were in the Moody Gardens exhibit just south of Houston.

Yeah, if you look at pic #2 they run a ridge over to a hip...it's sloped. Evidently they didn't hire a licensed and bonded framer to build it. Probably some tech student hack once again undercutting the $/SF that a good framer could have got for this job.

You're right...but I can't help notice something like that "ridge-jack" thing.

If I ever get a Dremel tool and a load of balsa wood....watch out.

Hey! exacto knives have better abilities for building modle and a hot glue gun. Easier than thawing out hoses?

That was the first thing I noticed too!

I've always loved these things and contemplated getting into the architectural model building field.

Back as a youngster I made balsa furniture for doll houses. Trouble was, the scale seemed all over the place (worked exclusively from plans ). Now that I'm a big boy and have a wood shop, the projects got slightly larger, but only slightly, when I built a Barbie armoir as part of a contest at the local woodworkers club. Building small stuff isn't as easy as it would seem, particularly when you're not using balsa and foam core.

Back in the 80's I remember my cousin completing his trade school and that was one of the things they had to do in order to pass the course.

Neat! What is the scale of that model? (1" = 1' ?) I have thought about doing one too, I just don't know where I'd keep it.

Here's one from a few hundred years ago, ( really) I keep it outside by the deck. The DIY Lincoln Log Cabin. Logs are 1-1/2". It looks pretty cool with some ferns and other potted plants placed around it. The roof is a work of art, iissms.

Oh god, looking at thing brings back nightmares. We had to build a two story house model complete with a bay window and dormers. What a pain the butt.
