Lots of airline antifreeze for the air tools along with draining the compressor often.

For my hands I like cotton gloves under thicker work gloves. I like to keep lots of pairs of gloves around to switch when they get wet/damp.

with all the advances in snow boarding/skiing/hiking and all that.. there hasn't been a really durable glove made yet? Anyone try those Mekanix < however you spell them.. gloves? I always liked those. Flexable and decently waterproof. I wonder if they were sprayed with that 3M if they would hold out the water more...

Is there a certain brand of airline antifreeze? Just wondering. We usually use Denatured Alcohol. I think it works pretty well.

Hands used to be a problem until I found these

https://www.ironclad.com/www/category.jsp?catID=44

They make a waterproof winter pair that don't affect dexterity too much and I'll be damned if they didn't stay waterproof all day in either the rain or slush.

Those are the coldest dam gloves I have ever worn, what a joke.

those are like those mechanics. I had a pair of those ironclad gave to me by a rep one year. I think they may still be around, albeit with holes in em.. but pretty tough gloves. I had some interior (forklift driver gloves) but they still held up for quite a while. I am not even sure where to purchase them now to tell you the truth.. online I guess?

Actually, it's not air hoses that freeze first, it's the fittings.

Equipment failure also includes not drinking water. The cold dry air will suck the life right out of you.

Keep moving, try not to take breaks, work at a slightly slower, more sustainable speed, drink water, heat the PL on the way to work, keep your compressor warm, cover your lumber with tarps, clean the floors every day (helps with cleaning snow off the floors in the morning), bring some driveway salt

Wich ones did you use? I bought a bunch for last winter the summit ones. The guys and I thought they were good down to 10-15 deg. I wan to try the tundra gloves. I do a lot of ice damn work in the winter and hopeing these will be good for those super cold days 0 through -20.

Around here the oil for the tools has the antifreeze in them starting around the end of Oct. We buy it by the case. I am sure you could google it and get it online.
Denatured achohol would be a little expensive.
Cheapest fix, is to make sure to use an air gryer and auto oiler before your hoses.

not sure of the name, but a seen an electric air warmer manifold. plug into generator, put main line from compressor to it, then run all air lines out of that

Be careful of what winter oil you get. We had somethat dried all of our o rings out in the guns and then we started having problems with them. Keep metal fittings close to some source of heat and you will be good.

Compressor, sub-floor adhesive, lights. Find a way to keep the compressor and glue warm at night, and keep some work lights handy.

Re: Looking Toward Winter Already.. What Are The Common Equipment Failures During Winter?

We don't get all that cold here near Bremerton, WA. Very few days that stay in the 20's. We have been using the Atlas gloves and love them, although they stink bad after about a month. http://atlasgloveconsumerproducts.co...ess/?page_id=3 They are the "tough" version, although I have wore the women's version because they matched my outfits better

Here are some other options too http://ninjagloves.com/docs/ninja_lite.htm
http://fastcap.com/skins.aspx I'm trying to get some of the FastCap to try out.

My cousin had a pair of gloves made for fishing that were waterproof and not bulky. I'll try to find what those are. There was a pair of golf gloves too that I saw online that are waterproof but flexible.
