It's not gravy anymore. You will need to pull up your pants and get to work. I hope you didn't think it was going to be easy all the time.

Feast or famine. We are just coming into famine.

Nows the time to start thinking about diversifying.Get into another segment of the building trade where you feel comfortable. Remodeling has always seemed to be good in a slow market. If people aren't thinking about building new ,and have to stay where they are, they will add on or up date.
Just a thought for those in this up and down part of the business.

Only bad side is that new construction pricing and remodeling pricing are way different. Ive seen it a thousand times in the midwest...new construction slows.....these peeps bust into remodeling and the whole price curve tends to tilt a bit. I guess the strong shall survive!!

I would be hoping they would ease their way in,after gaining a hold of the scope of work and pricing differences. At least consider learning the remodeling side now so they're ready for the next down turn.
I didn't mean to suggest that they jump into it ,but consider some sort of diversification for the future.

Like some say (i do too) You must learn to adapt. Getting into various facets of construction has helped me survive, family needs to eat. One week i'll be indoors installing kitchens, moldings and such, following week i may be freezing my azz off installing railings, fences. This week i'll be over a freinds house installing all his lighting fixtures and building some custom book shelves for another customer. I like doing different things each week it keeps things from getting boring. If all goes well i may have two basements to remodel that should get me thru most of the winter, one is around 800 sq the other around 1600 sq.
