How Would You Do These Stairs?

Can I get some ideas how you would frame the 1st to 2nd story stairs? I want to mirror the 1st to basement stairs.

I agree, what will change?

Just make sure to get your measurements right and go from there.

Can you be more specific?

I HAD JUST DONE A CASE LIKE THIS AND I ROUNDED THE BOTTOM STEP ON THE FIRST FLOOR JUST TO SOFTEN IT A BIT SO IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY SHARP CONERS.

Re: How Would You Do These Stairs?

Ok, so custom "stringers" nailed to the existing walls on the right side going up, and custom "stringers" supported by shortwalls under the left side going up? (I want the left side going up open).

Just want to get some ideas.

Thanks

Personally going from 1st floor to 2nd floor I'd have a stair co. make a nice finished set.

6'8" min. for headroom

Where does the headroom problem come into play?

I'm guessing the second story floor joists will be open to accomodate for the L-shaped stairs, correct?

Headroom shouldn't be a problem between the stairs if you mirror the lower set.

Duh, your correct.

The first 5 1st floor-basement steps are series of "boxes" stack on top of each other. I cannot do that upstairs for headroom reasons. So custom "stringers" nailed to the existing walls on the right side going up, and custom "stringers" supported by shortwalls under the left side going up is my best bet right?

Re: How Would You Do These Stairs?

I don't think that you are going to be able to build a mirror set to the bottom. What I would do is build a landing for the fourth step and run a short stringer from the floor to it and then from the landing to the second floor a set of stringers. You will need to support the landing on the inside corner of the L and nail the other two edges to the wall. I hope this is helpful.

Dave.

Are you sure that the winding portion meets code? If I remember correctly the inside of the tread can be no less than 6".
