How Much Did I Save Framing Myself

Just curious on how much we saved framing our addition ourselves. We live in Pgh, PA.

I just completed framing a 25'x32' addition. Two 9' high floors, basic box shape, nothing crazy. 8/12 pitch roof with 4 - 6' wide dormers. Plus, we had to ripp off half of our existing roof which was 14' x 28', raise it, rebuild it to match the new roof, and then tie into the new roof.

7/16" sheathing on walls, and 5/8" sheathing on roof, 3/4" sheathing on floors. Floor joists were 2/10's - 16 in o.c. , roof rafters were stick built, 2x8's, 24" in o.c.

Started in mid-May, and just finished...well, I have one more dormer to sheath. Worked with my wife, and some help from my neighbor. We got the first two floors done in a month, but the roof work was ALOT of work. We spent a lot of time rebuild our exisiting roof to match the addition roof, and then adding the dormers.

Jay, I'm confused.....

Your profile states that you are a carpenter, but................

YOU don't know what it would cost to frame an addition?

Perhaps you forte' isn't framing, but it seems if you are a professional carpenter, you would know the associated costs?

Please explain.

Also........ just checked all your posts, and they all pertain to this one addition on YOUR house.

Exactly what type of carpentry do you do professionally?

i figure you saved what ever you would have charged if you were bidding on it. what profession are ya? just curious, i know some fields are not versed in all the areas of construction. before i took the reigns running things myself, i didn't have a clue as to what things cost that was the bosses job. things like overhead, insurance, retirement, profit, and the like were not understood when i was just a carpenter and a hired hand.

I'm curious also....sounds like you built it by the book for sure...if you know what you spent, then you can at leat double the number, minimum, for an idea of labor.......

The only carpenters I kow who don't follow framing costs, etc., would be trim guys...and they know they are high.

Are the members of this site really here to tell one another how much money they saved by doing DIY jobs?

Asking questions about the how to's & what if's, maybe........
But really, How much $ did I save??????

Pretty vague ? if you ask me.

maj i figure it doesn't save me anything to do my own work. i don't get paid for it. and most of the time it doesn't get finished, and i can't fire the contractor. the upside is i can come onto homeowner's wife and make hay while at work and not worry about getting shot.
