Re: How To Lift HUGE Wall?

He lives to tell about it!

I have to admit, I was hoping for some cool pics of some kind of pulley system off that tree with a pickup at the end. Would have made for a better read but hey, you got it up and no stains on the deck.

Now I have to go hoist a kitchen job into a 6th floor window with some nylon twine and a pulley from the clothes line.
Should I block off the side walk? Aahh, it will be alright.

Re: How To Lift HUGE Wall?

We build a floor plan that has 2 19' walls at the front entrance.
one is 10' wide the other is around 12-14 (I forget)

For those walls we leave them out and build the rest of the main floor then the second floor joist, sheathing and the exterior walls.

Then we build the 2 tall walls on the deck of the second floor. sheathed and all.

Then we slide them off the side into place. There is usually a lot of swearing, sometimes blood, and because we are a 2 man crew, we bring donuts to site in the morning to round up some help.

The 2'nd story walls that join with the tall walls are already up, so we join the top plates, and were done.

I always leave off 16" of sheathing on both sides of the walls so they can be overlapped later.

Or alternatively we have had a crane come in to lift all the heavy walls. We build the biggest on the bottom and keep layering. It's costs about $300 but it's worth it.

squarehead this is what you do take the metal straping the lumber came with and nail it to the deck. then run it off the deck under the wall and nail it to the outside wall through the sheeting and into the wall studs . ok thats your hinge point. use wall jacks set them in the flex points of the wall , and stand the sun of a b!!!!!!! up ben there done that good luck!!!

Re: How To Lift HUGE Wall?

dragging up an old post.

The tree sounds like a great idea. exept your silly if you don't think about it for bit. That tree will flex bigtime when you lift the wall, you need a truck with a winch, park it behind the tree and chain it to a tree, tie the winch line to tree, load it up so its tight. otherwise when the wall gets light the tree is gonna flick it up maybe too far
