Re: How To Lift HUGE Wall?

You could lift the wall with a heavy strap and a 4x4 truck with 5 men you can lift the wall 8" at a time laying it on 8" block until its about 6 feet height . support it in three places . Then use heavy rope on each end so you cant pull the wall over on the truck . Add a kicker board about 8' height at the bottom plate to add leverage to the rope when pulling. I like to strap the bottom plate to the floor with SS lumber straps. On three, the guys push with 8' 2x4 and the truck pulls it up. It will go up easy . I like to use a excavator also . You can rent wall jacks i have never used them but they are cool . John

Must have been in July or August.

Some times I miss the big stuff. There is always a blue sky and 70 deg in my memories though.
I think it August. I just found out this week that we get less rain than NY city. We get 37" a year and NY gets 47" and Miami gets 56". We have a drier summer than the sw.

My wife is turning into a weather nerd and has a new book by a professor at UW so I'm hearing all this stuff about weather and micro-climates

It is usually perfect July-October. September/October are my favorite months. It is sunny and warm but not too warm for working. February is a good month too. A few year back we had a sunny Feb and it was 60 so we were in shorts.

Re: How To Lift HUGE Wall?

I worked outdoors in the Tacoma area for 5 yrs. I know all about the few months of good weather, it is stunningly beautiful. I loved it when Mt Rainier was in it's full glory and not a cloud in sight.
The way I remember it that was July and August. Then came the rainy season.
I came to the conclusion that when the forecast was for a 30% chance of rain that really meant that it was going to rain 30% of the time. And a great winter day was cloudy as hell with no rain.

You may be right about the rainfall totals, but having been raised in NY, all I can say is that it must come down a lot faster in NY. Because I spent an absurd amount of time in WA getting pissed on for days at a time.

I'm just fooling around. I had a great time there. Spent alot of time horseback riding up on the peninsula and in the cascades with my son who was just a tike at the time. Damn near killed him a couple of times but we have stories to tell.

Nice looking work by the way. You obviously have it together there.

What kind of rain coat do you prefer?

Re: How To Lift HUGE Wall?

I keep checking in here looking for some good news too. There are some very ugly pictures in my head though.

Like I said earlier, I was going to give him a call but couldn't find a listing. His profile lacks his name. nothing comes up with his company name.

maybe someone else may have better luck.

Sure would be a cruel joke if this thread is a fake

I've been wearing Grundens since 2001 and love it. I have the Petrus pull over and whatever pants go with those. They are stretchy so they are very comfortable.

I wish. I love the Tajima lines, but when any moisture gets inside, they clog up.

Re: How To Lift HUGE Wall?

Tim we do that all the time. Quite a few of the builders we work for have large two story walls in them and no access for our lift. We usually build them in the street or something and put them all in place at once. One model has 8 18 foot high wall as big as 30 feet wide we'll put that in no problem.

Stong backs on the walls are very important though. One of our subs didn't put any on and his wall split right in half. The top plate came off the riggin let go and the whole thing came crashing down knocking over a couple of walls in its path. Almost killed his whole crew and a couple of my guys who were working next door. Needless to say that was the last house he framed for us.

I never thought I would stump you on that one.

I think I had about 6 lines. We strung them up like dirty laundry anywhere we could. Even in the garage at home. That really sucked.

Tape measures were not far behind. I always used to clean mine between my legs on my jeans. Always looked like I pissed myself.

Re: How To Lift HUGE Wall?

Sorry for the delay Guys. Thanks for the concern. I got it up without incident. I recruited 2 extra guys from the local coffee shop and 8 of us put it up in about 4 separate lifts the old fashioned way. It was all we could do, but we got it standing with no problems.

Re: How To Lift HUGE Wall?

Your late for your own funeral! The boys had it last week lol. I'm sure a lot of guys were wondering if you made it or not. Glade to see it went well.

I used to mark a window closest to me just in case it fell back. I have been on 2 jobs that the gable fell off the side of the 2nd floor ( better then on us)
