Hiring Temporary Workers To Help Frame A House

I'm asking for any advice any of you all would have to offer. I am frustrated with the unavailability of framing contractors in my area, so I am going to hire two temporary workers and frame my house myself. I was wondering if you all could offer any advice for the project? I know it's taking a big chance, but everyone had to take a chance at one point. Thanks

If you can frame correctly, I dont see a problem.
You will just have 2 helpers instead of doing it yourself.

I knew a guy that went to Manpower and would hire guys as needed and built his home complete. From the pictures I saw of it at the time it ended up looked pretty good. Would guess that it would depend on how experienced you were and the help you are able to get.

Re: Hiring Temporary Workers To Help Frame A House

I can tell you from personal experience, hiring a non-experienced temp off the street isn't a bad way to go, depending on your own experience. If you can frame without the distractions of having to watch over your shoulder, and maybe not mind showing and teaching a little, you may get help you want to keep. I have trained all my guys to do what I want how I want, and it works out. I don't have debates with anyone about how to do this or that or that isn't the way so and so did it.....

I agree with Joasis. I run a small crew 3-5 guys plus myself. All have had some carpentry experience but very little. It was much easier to train them and show them how I like to do things than constantly argue with them about how they always did it. The guys I have now I couldn't be happier with and they all came from a help wanted ad in the paper.

I framed a house with 2 labor ready guys. They had no clue. I told them exactly what to do and we did it. It took about 3 months though. One cut up house. 15/12 pitch hand cut roof. Just depends on how well you know your stuff. But its doable.

So what did you do with the temps when you were done? Say adios? Help them find work or keep them?

Re: Hiring Temporary Workers To Help Frame A House

I dont see any reason why not as you are capable of doing the work.

Lay everything out, have them do the work.

After a few days, they'll get the swing.

It is also a great opportunity for you to start a framing company since no competition around.

One went into painting after we were done and we hired the other. Only to fire him soon after for stealing.
