Ben
A bastard hip will always sit to one side of the wall corner or the other, if yo are keeping an equal overhang. If the hip is located properly, you can make the HAP the same as the commons/jacks on that side of the corner. Again, I always layout the fascia cuts first and work backwards for the seat cut to keep an equal drop from top of wall.

He should have been sent to his room. He only got his ball taken away.

I hope he comes around, the kid does have some promise.

headering out the top is cheating! plus valleys are inherently easier to do than hips. I skip the tails on all my valleys, even the regulars. and I wish you'd start using trusses already, save some money on labor and pass the savings on to the homeowner!
other than that you're doing an outstanding job

I had to cheat, I only got an additional 500 clams to make that a vaulted ceiling instead of an overframe.

that's not too bad. it isn't that much more work, and looks much better than a scab. i usually try to shove beams into the second floor deck under the two sidewalls in the foyer to let me frame the reverse first and drop the main on top.

I've done that a couple times,as in my own house. In this case, the decision was made after ridges and gables were set.

well at least they didn't wait for you to be done sheathing.
had that happen once, had to stuff true valleys underneath the sleepers and block everything out. stupid fun

Re: Hips And Valleys

Who are you calling a fag? Would you like a timeout? If so, let me know and I can add your name to the baby-pin with all the other guys.

This is a public forum, privately owned. It's as simple as that.
