Help With Porch Rails/posts

HO wants to add rails to her currently open porch. I've debated with myself on how best to go about doing this. Here's my situation.

1. There are two posts supporting the porch. The "facia like" trim running lengthwise in front of the post extending from the soffit is styled in such a way that moving, rearranging, or adding another supporting post would require the trim to be reworked. (don't really want to do that but can)

2. I considered adding two newel posts on the ends in on the edge of the sidewalk. But the two posts are supported by concrete footers and I don't know how good it would look with concrete footers on the two main posts and no concrete footers on the shorter posts.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated...like always!

I plan to start on this soon and I promise ahead of time that I'll post completion pics when I'm done.

Re: Help With Porch Rails/posts

I think it would depend on what type of product you use for your railings...
Wood/composite/vinyl ?

I would replace the posts also with some type of larger columns and match the railing/newels to the new columns.. This might help in the layout of the newels and the tieing in of the rails to the posts/columns

Most vinyl or composite manufactures have mounting post for cement
