Nope.

Continue the existing first floor line.
Seamless tie in. Mansard style.
Easier than beating a noob with a hockey stick.

Scipio that's an awesome design. If I thought I could pull that one off, I'd sure do it. Brock, I think what your saying is that I have to remove brick the attach the band board?

Brock, you're right about the band board. Somehow the first thing in my mind was a cathedral ceiling since it appears to be an open porch. No joists to band board for a ceiling means you usually have to tie the rafters to the band board. Funny how you start with some assumptions and go from there.

I think he wants to cover the entire patio though, extending past the front plane of the single story addition (or whatever that is).

Andy.

No You bolt through the brick into the rim (or "band board"). Use 1/2" lags high and low alternate. Then intall a 2 x 6 horizontal where the top of your rafters tie in. This can lag into brick. I would try to find studs for giggles though but not necessary because it is just a furring strip.

Bam! Then you simply hanger your joists to your lower ledger and leg up to provide a support for you rafters because the can't hang they need the ledger support.

If you a noob then just have the truss manufacturer build them for you.

And check out my new signature.

I'm either real slow or just stupid. I guess I missed a step. Okay, I drill holes in the brick through the band board. Place 1/2 inch lag bolts through a 2x6, through the brick and through the band board and tighten?

PM me if you want.
No doubt I'm a deekhead
on here but I don't mind
helping someone out if
they really want to learn
and do it right the first time.

It sounds like thats what
you want to do and I think
that's great.
