Flat Roof Framing

I am in a situation where the existing roof framing is inadequate for the size of the structure, in fact the roof piches towards the house by 4 inches and road asphalt or something similar was used to level it off. Im a little surprised it hadnt caved in.

The way the existing room is built, is with 2x6's for the ceiling and roof framing with 5/8s plywood. The size of the room is 15x18. What would work better spaning the 15 feet, 2x10's or 2x12's, 16 O.C, either with 3/4 inch plywood. I am in the snow belt. ( Northern Illinois.)
Remember its a flat roof that will be slightly pitched and covered with EPDM

Re: Flat Roof Framing

I certainly appreciate the input.
I figure it was the areas 'Master Carpenter' who put the structure together.
And the oldest roofing company in town that did the roof.
I will end up useing 2x12's.

I can't believe it hasn't collapsed already. Check the span tables for TJI's.
Insert disclaimer here...if you are using 2X12 I would go 12" center's.

Your master carpenter remarks are UN warranted. Why don’t you take the time to not tarnish the name of master carpenter for those that carry the title among their business and practice.

Remarks like that give carpenters a bad name for those that read the threads and makes decision to hire people like you.
