First Time Steel Stud Framing.
Hey all. I have had my business for about 2 and a half years now, I am 24 yrs old. I recently got hooked up with one of my fathers friends that owns and leases 3/4 of the industial park near where I live in New Jersey. He does nothing but commerical buildings and work. He wanted me to do my first steel stud job this past week. I was very nervous about this, coming from nothing but a wood background. It was definatly very simple otherwise about $300 more in tools but, tools are tools right? Mostly all non-bearing 10 and 12ft walls with drop ceilings, extending a few offices out around 30ft. Concrete floors a few doors solid wood, one interior window. All non-bearing is 2ft centers and bearing is 16" centers. I had to do the framing and drywall, but I have no idea what do charge for this job. I am just wondering if anyone can tell me roundabouts what you would charge per foot. He was very, very happy with the speed and quality of my work. So I would think he is going to call me for more work now (hopefully). I dont want to charge too less and be stuck in that bracket for the rest of my work with him, or charge too much and not get a call back. My other downfall is that he ordered all the materials so its going to be brought down to a strick labor price. Any ideas? If I get nothing back I am just going to call some local commerical guys and get some prices but I figured I would drop a line and see what kind of feedback I get on here. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Checking your own local market is where you need to start anyway. I haven't framed in steel, but I understand it runs close with stick framing, and that price alone can vary all over the board.

Re: First Time Steel Stud Framing.
You already did it and didn't have a price yet? If it is already done this should be easy, how long did it take you? How much do you charge per hour. Since you have been in business for 2 1/2 years you should know what you need per hour, overhead(insurance, gas, etc, etc, etc) profit, your wage, etc, etc, etc. And give him that price. The hardest part about estimating a job IMO is trying to figure out how long it will take to do.

Re: First Time Steel Stud Framing.
I was able to bang it out in a rather short period of time. The super made a schedual up for all the subs to follow and I was spot on with it for what he wanted me to do! I just cannot believe how easy this commerical stud work is. They want speed and no quality. But I told him from the start thats not how I work! in the end he was very pleased with the job, now its nail biting time till I either recieve a check or a phone call to lower my price lol
