Engineered Studs?
Anyone used/using engineered studs? How do they compare in price to standard studs? I like the thought of them being more dimensionally stable.

Re: Engineered Studs?
I have used them in some new homes that i have done. Definetly more cost but the end justifies the means. straight no bows cups ect. Nice to hang cabinets on. I dont hink they arer worth while any place but the kitchen and maybe a large custom built in around a fire place.

Re: Engineered Studs?
I used them in my own home, and not because I spec'd them. It's just what the Lumber Yard delivered. They were finger jointed, and already had a wire hole drilled in them at about 18". Really nice stuff.
They explained that they came from Canada. They further explained that they can get Canadian engineered studs really cheap because engineered wood products don't have the same import tariff as dimensional KD lumber does. Worked out for me. Darned few culls. |

Re: Engineered Studs?
I live about 20 miles from the border of Canada. I wonder if I could buy a few bunks and have them delivered. Might be cheaper. Thanx guys

Re: Engineered Studs?
I've used them a lot, and they are great! The problem is the expense is almost 3 times the price of lumber. Unless it's a custom home that calls for them, the only place I use them is for very tall balloon walls, Kitchens and the like.

Headers, lam beams, tji's I have heard of, but I have never heard of engineered studs. Does anyone have a good link for them?
