Drywall Fasteners Or Clips

There's a good dialogue going on at the Journal of Light Construction's forum about the use of drywall fasteners for inside corners, truss uplift, etc. Adding my two bits, I wouldn't go back to framing by using blocking. What's your experience?

i read something like that somewhere to. the only problem is getting my drywall guys to try something new. you save lumber and labor cost but is it costly for the rockers? that was always my question. cost effectivness. if its costly for them it hits us somewhere.

Not clear, do sheetrockers screw to the clips or what? Currently I find myself going back in closets and what not peicing in corner nailers with cuttoffs and scraps. It seems there should be an easier method to save time and money.

Re: Drywall Fasteners Or Clips

I've called them sheetrock clips, but Simpson calls the drywall stops. They've changed a little since I've seen them. We did one job in WA state that required no framing backing. The sheetrockers used these clips instead. It's cheaper for material, but who knows about time wise. The ones I've seen are shaped like the letter F. You slide the clips onto the end of the sheetrock and there's a little hole in the end of the clip to attach it to the framing member perpendicular to the sheet, if that makes sense to you.

Here's the link for the Simpson catalog. Just look up "DS" or go to page 187.
