Double Gable Roof Connection
my girfriends grandparents live on a small farm house and would like to renovate it and sell it, so they can move to town, however, the house is a cobbled-mess, over the years they have added little additions on here and there, without having any idea what they are doing. lots of 1/2 gable additions and things of that sort. They have two gable ends facing the same direction and connectied with a flat section inbetween them.... Great idea, i know...
It is going to be hard to understand, but it leaks on the flat section of the roof. They would like me to "pitch" the flat section to help with water drainage. I was wondering what the best idea you "experts", nail benders, or bystanders have for doing this...did I mention the gables are different roof pitches.....ha to make it more intresting....the gables are even the same height...you give a farmer a hammer and you see what they do with it...=) |

Re: Double Gable Roof Connection
I would saddle the new pitched roof between the two gables. Throw away your construction master calc and your framing book for this one. It will be all custom pitches and bevels. For asthetic purposes, I would just make sure the new "between" roof is level across the two gables and slopes back to a given point. A picture would help greatly since I'm only suggesting how I would do it from what I think it looks like. Without a better understanding of what you are tackleing, no one can really give u an idea.

Re: Double Gable Roof Connection
If it's flat, sounds like you can tear off the roofing and frame some rafters right on top of the existing sheathing. A picture would help, but we still probably couldn't give you any specifics on a forum. Sounds like something where you'd have to stand there, look at it, figure it out, and draw up a design.
