Double Decker Deck Help
My customer wants a covered porch with a open deck stacked above it. The upper deck ledger will only give a max slope for the porch roof of about 2/12. He doesn't want any of those vinyl "rain guard" solutions. He wants a plywood or t&g porch ceiling. Any suggestions?

Re: Double Decker Deck Help
I dont see why you couldnt rip the deck joist to get the appropriate slope, what size are you using? At the very worse just tell the cutomer you can do whatever he'd like within the code requirements and that he'll have to compromise one way or the other.

Re: Double Decker Deck Help
We furred perpindicular underneath the joists with various height pieces to generate about a 6" slope over 10'. We then connected some raised seam metal to the furring strips and caulked around the support posts and ledger side. A 6" overlap of the ledger flashing also helps keep the water away. When we attach the wood ceiling and porch sides, we're going to waterproof all sides of the wood before installation, and we're also going to put in some 3" circular vents at each ceiling corner to allow ventilation "just in case".
